Halle Freyssinet is a former train station in the centre of Paris. By the end of 2016, it is to be the site of the largest business incubator in the world.
Paris
France
Focusing on digital technology, it will host over a thousand innovative start-ups—after construction work to convert the site is complete. Over an area of 34,000 square metres, this landmark edifice will host co-working spaces, a fab lab, an auditorium seating 370, meeting rooms for as few as 2 to as many as 50 people, large work areas, and a restaurant and bar open 24 hours a day. Halle Freyssinet is 310 metres long by 70 metres wide and consists of three parallel naves with prestressed concrete vaults. As the naves are very thin—5 centimetres thick in some places—a lightweight solution for sealing and insulating was necessary. Its lightness; low thermal conductivity (λ = 0.038 W m 1 K-1); and flexibility, enabling it to follow the curved profiles of the vaults, made Panotoit Confort an easy choice.
