ISOVER provides the insulation solutions to completely transform a small school in Sivriez, Switzerland. Starting with only two classrooms, the renovation created 2 additional classrooms, 1 general usage room, acoustical improvements and all meeting Minergie standards. An excellent demonstration of Isover working with schools for a better future. This project featured in the Isover Energy Efficiency Awards 2009.
With only two classrooms, the old primary school at Siviriez had become too small. It was therefore necessary to extend and renovate the building, which dates back to 1962, to create two addi¬tional classrooms and a general room, all on three levels. In order to obtain Minergie certification, the environmental performance of the building would be a key factor, but it was also hoped that the renovation would enhance the life of the village by providing a facility that would be used by the whole community. Modern architectural design has transformed the appearance of the school, with the stylish inverted pitched roof completing the dynamic new look. On the side of the building, window frames have been finished to match the colour of the building envelope, and on the second floor, skylights have been fitted to flood the rooms with natural daylight. The building can now accommodate 100 students in four classrooms, whilst in the basement, the local community now has a general meeting room, complete with kitchen.
