ISOVER participates in the construction of a middle-class family home in Cintruénigo, Navarra, Spain. The objective was to design a contemporary house, which was unconventional, both from an aesthetic viewpoint and in terms of its construction.
The project involved the construction of an affordable house for a middle class family in the semi-urban area of Cintruénigo, a small town in the South of Navarra. The team’s objective was to design a contemporary house, which was unconventional, both from an aesthetic viewpoint and in terms of its construction. A lightweight, dry construction system was chosen at an early stage of the project, as this would reduce the build time and allow for simple deconstruction and recycling of materials at the end of the building’s life. But the team also wanted to develop an affordable new construction concept, by creating a facade that was somewhere between a solid wall and an open window. The team wanted to create a facade system that interacted with the external environment, with a dynamic quality that allowed it to change its configuration to adapt to different thermal conditions. The team also wanted to do away with the traditional differences between a solid wall and an open area. To do this, they developed three different types of external envelopes, based on specialized slabs of transparent, opaque or translucent material. Each of the materials was affordable, readily available and easy to install, to ensure that the solution could be replicated.
