VARIO: the most advanced air tightness and moisture management system
VARIO from Saint-Gobain ISOVER is the most advanced air tightness and moisture management system on the market today. It combines a high performance membrane together with installation accessories (tapes and sealants) and low lambda glass wool insulation products.
With a worldwide patent and proven performance across Europe, the VARIO system has been specifically developed to protect the timbers from the effects of prolonged moisture trapped in the structure and to improve the levels of air tightness of the building envelop, consistent with current, but more importantly, future regulations.
Saint-Gobain Isover’s VARIO membrane is a new type of vapour barrier, as intelligent as human skin – altering its structure according to relative humidity. The vapour permeability of this retardant depends on the ambient humidity conditions. Because the relative humidity in a building is higher in summer than in winter this property leads to enhanced drying processes during warm periods. In winter, when the air inside a dwelling is warmer than the outside, water vapour is pushed into unprotected roof or wall structures. This can cause long term damaging affects on timber, like mold and mildew growth and even destroy the load-bearing structures. Installing the VARIO system impedes the ingress of this water vapour by automatically reacting to the climatic conditions and closing its pores. In summer however, when the ambient temperature is increased, the VARIO system has the reverse affect by opening its pores to allow trapped water vapour to escape inwards, thus ensuring that the structure can dry naturally. As a result, you can be confident that the wood structure will remain dry and that vital timber components will therefore be protected for the life of the building.
The VARIO Smart Vapour Barrier creates an air-tight shell around your building envelope, preventing any unwanted air leaks or draughts from penetrating.
